Idiot of the Week

Earlier this week, it was reported that a nine year old boy was suspended from a Texas elementary school for threatening to make another student disappear with a magic ring. The boys parents believe that he got the idea after watching The Hobbit movie.
Apparently Roxanne Greer, principal of Kermit Elementary School and other school officials believed the threat was real enough to suspend the boy for making a “terroristic threat.”
I attempted to get a comment (and find out if the ring was in fact real) from school officials.
A gentleman who answered the phone at the school (no name was provided) informed me that “due to Texas law, the school was not allowed to discuss a student with anyone but the students parents or guardian.”
I asked why a student would be suspended for threatening to make another student disappear with a ring that, for all intents and purposes, does not exist. The gentleman informed me that that was not the only reason why the student was suspended and that “I should not believe everything that is reported in the news.”
When I asked him to clarify, he again cited privacy issues.
I asked if it was true, as the boys parents were reporting, that the boy had also been suspended for bringing a children’s encyclopedia to school and calling another student black?
The gentleman informed me that the boys parents could say whatever they want to the press but it was not true. When I asked for clarification, he again cited privacy issues and stated that this was between the boy, his parents and the school.
He was unable to comprehend, as I explained to him, that this was not merely an issue between the boy, his parents and the school but an issue that impacts all society. When those charged with the responsibility of educating and shaping young minds exercise such illogical behavior, society as a whole must deal with the consequences.
Principal Roxanne Greer has no business being around children. She should be fired immediately, as should all those who made the mistake of hiring her.
