What We’ve Come to Accept
Why do we expect so much from our politicians and leaders yet accept so little?
I think back to the election of 1992. Bill Clinton admits trying marijuana but tells us he didn’t inhale. Remember the shock? The possible scandal? A presidential candidate admitting to using illegal drugs. Theretofore unheard of. Would this lead to his downfall? The collapse of his campaign? You know the outcome.
Fast forward sixteen years later. Along comes Obama. Forget the marijuana, we now have the first president to admit to using cocaine. Cocaine ladies and gentlemen.
But hey, even though he admits to the pot and the booze and a little blow back in high school, he says he never did smack.
And we accept this why? For his honesty? His openness? Give me a break. Familiarity breeds contempt.
